Review: Erewhon Gluten Free Cereals

Recently, I was contacted about reviewing some Erewhon gluten free cereals for my blog. I was quite excited about the prospect. Not only is it difficult to find a wide variety of good gluten-free dry cereals, but also because most cereals are high in sugar.

When the package arrived from Attune Foods containing three Erewhon organic gluten-free cereals, I was thrilled before I even poured the cereals into bowls for breakfast the next morning.

Here is why: No GMOs, certified gluten-free, and the ingredient lists were all very short, natural, and organic. For instance, the Crispy Brown Rice Gluten Free Cereal had this ingredient list: Organic brown rice, Organic brown rice syrup, Sea salt.

That is it. Simple. What’s not to love? There is also less than 1g of sugar in 1 cup of cereal. See why I was enamored with it so very early on?

My family and I tried the Crispy Brown Rice Gluten Free Cereal, Rice Twice, and Strawberry Crisp. Rave reviews for all of them, which surprised me – my kids tend to be opinionated little foodies and pretty clear when it comes to what they like and what they do not like.

Side note: this direct honesty trait of theirs is marvelously helpful when writing a blog – hearing, “Mom, this recipe of yours kind of tastes like rotten eggs, I don’t think you should post it” or “Why did you ruin the broccoli?” keeps a girl humble. They are my loudest critics…and my biggest fans.

My kids’ favorite cereal hands-down was the Rice Twice. It has a kid-cereal taste to it, without all the added junk. It consists of rice crisps and puffs, and has a very distinct taste to it. It was their favorite, and I have requests to stock up on it next time I get to Whole Foods. My favorite was the kids’ next favorite, Strawberry Crisp. Consisting of flakes made from corn and rice along with some freeze dried strawberries, this cereal was sweet and tasty. This stuff is incredible! The final cereal was the Crispy Brown Rice Gluten Free Cereal, which we all also enjoyed as a cereal. Plus, I used this cereal to make crispy rice treats with marshmallow and butter, cutting them into petite circles. They disappeared very quickly. I also used 2 cups of the cereal to create this delicious pork chop recipe.

All in all, Erewhon is our new favorite brand for cereals. I highly recommend that you try them! A big thank you to Annelies at Attune Foods for sending me the cereals to sample and review.

  1. I will in a few weeks when I start adding starches back in my diet. I look forward to trying them. šŸ˜€

  2. I will. I have some gluten free crackers that I LOVE and some breadsticks that I love. I found that I have very bad cramps when eating certain types of bread. Very glad that you found my blog, because I really needed yours! šŸ˜€

    • I’m glad I found yours too- I love it. Especially all those lovely graphs and charts! šŸ˜‰

    • Shonnie,

You sound like my bride. She would have cramping and general discomfort after eating pastas and breads. She finally went to a homeopathic doctor, he did some blood work, and she came back as ‘gluten intolerant’, but not Celiac’s.

Thankfully there are some great GF resources out there to help us maintain a GF diet for her! (I, on the other hand, am not GF intolerant, but as a good husband I do not purposely eat gluten bread/pasta in front of her. She’s my babies’ mama, so I do my best to keep her happy, dontcha know.)
